Hackney Empire Community Choir

Love to sing? Then come and join Sharon D Clarke (BBC Last Choir Standing judge), Joseph Roberts (East London Gospel Choir director) and the Hackney Empire Community Choir. Whether you’re an ambitious alto, bathroom baritone or just want to make some new friends, this is the group for you.

Hackney Empire Community Choir’s first performance at Sounds Like Hackney 2010 was such a success that the group have been growing ever since. Mixing everything from pop hits to choral classics, there’ll be something in the songbook for even the most diverse tastes.

The choir accompanied Hackney-born Leona Lewis on stage at Radio 1's Big Weekend in 2012, performed at the Paralympic Opening Ceremony and accompanied Leona again at the Royal Albert Hall in May 2013. In 2014 the choir celebrated International Women’s Day in style with a performance of Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves at the Southbank Centre, performed on the National Lottery draw and came back to the Hackney Empire for Sing Out!

Sing Out!

The highlight of the 2014 Hackney Empire Community Choir was their final performance at our Sing Out! Festival of Choirs. The ACM Gospel Choir, The Reapers Choir, The Fourth Choir, Enchorus and the Reggae Choir joined them at a day of workshops and performances. Sing Out! will return in Spring 2015 with a whole new line up of choirs and the 2015 Hackney Empire Community Choir.
