What is Connecting Young Hackney?
The new after-school and half-term programme, commencing in January 2013, will provide young people aged 12 to 19, living in Hackney, with opportunities in a range of Performing Arts and Media subjects and are being led by some of the industries foremost practitioners and companies. These workshops will be a fun introduction to many art forms for those with little or no experience in them and will also seek to provide opportunities for emerging and more experienced young artists looking for pathways into further education in the Arts and work experience. However and most importantly, these sessions will provide a safe space for young people in Hackney to explore the arts; a space that they feel is totally accessible and inspirational.
Industry professionals and top companies from the Performing Arts scene have been invited to create schemes of work and opportunities that otherwise may not be available to Hackney young people. This initiative is part of the Hackney Empire and the London Borough of Hackneys wider aims to generate more chances for young people to explore their own creativity in innovative and powerful ways.
