As a laboratory for new plays the Hackney Empire is proud to announce a partnership with ANGLE Theatre's New Writers Award programme:
Thousands of people from all over the world come to live in London every year. This year Angle and Hackney Empire have come together to launch a unique New Writers Award that seeks to celebrate and reflect the international voice of East London on stage. New Writers Awards is a pilot scheme, dedicated to providing a platform to budding playwrights from all backgrounds in East London. It is committed to providing access to the theatre for writers of international origin. Unique and powerful, these voices are often under-represented and unheard. Angle aims to re-dress this balance and is issuing a call for new plays from playwrights from all backgrounds living in East London. We strongly encourage submissions from writers of international origin and ethnic minorities based in East London who have got something to say and want it to be heard.
We are looking for:
Emerging playwrights of all backgrounds who are resident in East London. Writers must be 18 or over and plays will be read in all languages as well as in translation.
To enter:
Writers must submit at least three scenes of an unperformed play with no more than 5 characters, a completed application form (found on Angle website http://www.angletheatre.co.uk/) and a stamped address envelope for feedback. The deadline for submissions has been extended to the 3rd June 2008 and plays should be sent to: New Writers Awards 2008, Angle, Unit 3.3, 128 Hoxton works, Hoxton Street, London N1 6SH. Please note scripts will not be returned."
