Primary Tours for KS2
The Hackney Empire is delighted to offer interactive tours of the theatre to primary schools which take children on a journey through the theatre’s history. Along the way, they hear about the theatre’s famous designer, Frank Matcham; Marie Lloyd, the star of variety theatre in the early 1900s; and Charlie Chaplin, the most famous name to appear on the Empire’s stage. Following the tour, children take part in a 40 minute workshop where they play drama games.

The package is designed to progress children’s knowledge and understanding of local history, and develop performance, speaking and listening skills.

(Please note that due to health and safety regulations, children are not able to access the stage or backstage areas during the visit.)

We are developing our programme for primary school clusters.  We aim to work with small groups of schools to identify targets, and then create intensive bespoke projects that inspire learning and creativity throughout each school and its local community linked with our artistic programme at the Empire.
