    Starring Lenny Henry, and based on the BBC Radio 4 series, this touching comedy with real rhythm is set in an old reggae record shop in Birmingham, which is owned by the irrepressible Rudy Sharpe with the assistance of his long-suffering son Adam. The show features a live onstage band playing hits from the likes of Desmond Dekker, Toots and the Maytals, Jimmy Cliff, Sam Cooke, Sugarhill Gang and more!

  • Hackney Empire Community Choir

    Following July's successful Sing Out! Choir Festival, Hackney Empire's Community Choir return with a ten week Autumn Term. Well known for its infectious energy and joyous sound, Hackney Empire Community Choir was launched in 2010 by Olivier award winning, former BBC Last Choir Standing judge Sharon D Clarke in partnership with former East London Gospel Choir music/choir director Joseph Roberts.

  • In Conversation with Newton Dunbar of The Four Aces club

    To celebrate the final weekend of Rudy’s Rare Records, we're taking a trip down memory lane with Newton Dunbar, the founding manager of The Four Aces club. The Four Aces, one of London’s most famous Reggae venues, opened in Hackney in 1966. By the 1970s, the club had become a hub for West Indians, attracting people from across the UK. In its heyday, the club saw live performances from Desmond Dekker, Jimmy Cliff and Ben E. King, and was visited by Bob Marley and Bob Dylan.
