We’re opening the doors to our iconic building completely free of charge as part of Open House Festival 2026.

Across the weekend of 19–20 Sep, book a place on one of our guided tours to explore our iconic theatre, discover more about its remarkable architecture and hear stories from its 125-year history.

Designed by renowned theatre architect Frank Matcham and opened in 1901, Hackney Empire has been a music hall, television studio and bingo hall, before being restored as the much-loved theatre it is today.

As part of your visit, you’ll also be able to explore our new foyer exhibition celebrating 125 years of Hackney Empire. The exhibition shines a light on the people, performances and communities that have shaped the building over the years.

Booking for guided tours opens 19 Aug, and places are expected to sell out quickly.

Can’t get a place? Drop-ins will also be welcome throughout the weekend, subject to capacity.
