About Reimagining Pagliacci
Can we rewrite the story of Pagliacci? Can we save Nedda from Canio’s murderous jealousy? Or will the audience demand that this story end in tragedy?
Award-winning Streetwise Opera breaks down and reassembles this classic opera by Ruggero Leoncavallo, viewing it through a modern lens.
This 15-minute performance, with piano accompaniment, includes new music by Electra Perivolaris and Francesca Le Lohé. The production is directed by Anna Morrissey (director of Last Days, Royal Ballet and Opera).
This performance is preceded by a 40-minute workshop on how to create an opera, in which Aga Serugo-Lugo, a Streetwise Opera Associate Artist, and participants from Streetwise Opera’s London sessions share insights into the co-creation of this piece.
This event is part of Reimagining the Classics, a collaboration between Streetwise Opera, English Touring Opera, and Opera North that flips opera’s biggest stories on their heads with bold new music. Performances are taking place in Nottingham, Manchester and London.
Streetwise Opera is an opera company that enables people who have experienced homelessness to find inspiration and empowerment through music and creativity as they rebuild their lives and identities.
